FINAL Item of 23 Things Summary

Congratulations!!!!!!!!
I have completed the APSU version of 23 Things for Teachers. I really enjoyed trying all the concepts and learning (good and bad) how different websites and technology works outside of yahoo or D2L.
1. My favorite discoveries were Animoto, Blog spot, and the Avatar.
2. This has affected my entire learning process on technology in a great way. I have learn how to use other things outside my normal Internet activity. I have learned new ways of how to use a computer. Also I learned how you can make things legal for your name sake (Creative Commons).
3. No I did not experienced any unexpected outcomes except for snow days that gave me plenty of time to learn.
4. Do I want to improve this program? I have to say no. I say this because some programs may have been a waste of time and others a benefit. If this program was not set up I would not have had the chance to experience what things I liked and dislike. So in other words, keep it for this education class.
5. I have not quite figured out how to use everything I have learned in my classroom. This is only the beginning phase, I must continue on my own to learn more about the programs and learn how to use them. Except for You Tube I am using that from the time I start teaching till I stop teaching no matter how old it is!!!
6. NO!!!!!!!!!!! I am not keeping this blog at all!! I do not have time to be at this computer as much as I have spent this entire semester. If I need one for another class I will truly start over.
I am so glad its over and do not want to see this again. I AM SO HAPPY!!!

I read the Creative Commons information a little more in depth from the earlier project. I read into the Mark Pilgrim case study and found it very insightful. I like how different people all over the world are creating events and ideas for other people to follow. Below is the Mark Pilgrim link. I hope you find it insightful as me.
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Case_Studies/Mark_Pilgrim

#22 of 23 Things

I just created my Live Binders account. I enjoyed it. It was super easy to follow and set up the account. I will use it to organize all these books, papers, etc. around my house. That will happen ASAP. As far as my classroom I will use it after I get a little more hands on experience with it.
My three binders I have created goes with the areas I would like to teach:
North Carolina State History
Egypt History
American History
My embeded code for NC History: <div style="width:75px; height:78px; background-image:url(http://www.livebinders.com/images/binder_icon.gif); border:0px; margin-top:4px; background-repeat: no-repeat"> <a href="http://livebinders.com/play/play_or_edit?id=85380"> <img src="http://open.thumbshots.org/image.pxf?url=http://www.secretary.state.nc.us/kidspg/history.htm" style="width:60px; height:60px; border:0px; padding:0px;margin:11px 0px 0px 13px;" /> </a> </div> <div><a href="http://livebinders.com/play/play_or_edit?id=85380">North Carolina History</a><br /></div>

This could be used in a great way for classroom instead of teachers having a basket full of papers in a corner. It will give a teacher acces with ease going to the exact folder she/he have set up for the class on that day. I think elementary teachers will enjoy it the most with pictures, voices, and colors. As a high school teacher I love to give information and this will pull the words that are more than I could write on the board in a day!!! Enjoy, I know I have.

I was really happy and excited doing the Animoto video. It was a very easy account to set up. The steps to make the video was just as easy. I like how the site promoted and gave information on the free videos as well as the prices on the ones you can buy. If you are a person who likes weddings and family reunions and big on holidays, this would be the perfect website to start. I did like You Tube and still does, however to make my own video I would use Animoto.
I am not sure on how I would use this in a classroom. I wonder would I use it to show them my personal life or just to show them vaction places I have been in the world. I am not sure but if you are reading this please leave your advice on how to use this in the classroom. Below is my video link. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I am Proud of ....... Here is my Animoto link to my video. I hope you enjoy.

# 20 Of 23 Things

Hello
I personally have never used You Tube before. I have stood over my husband and children while they used and laughed or read something for a project they had. I enjoyed You Tube. It is very easy to get to. It was very easy to type exactly what I wanted to see and nothing else I did not want to see. Of course by now everyone know I am a Duke fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was raised as a die hard Duke fan and Grant Hill was my number one superstar (still is). However when Rasheed Wallace stepped on the scene I turned to a Tar Heel Fan!!! But now that I live in Tenn. I scream for both teams because I love my home state. I found one of Grant Hill's greatest moments at Duke and I had my family to watch because it was my first You Tube moment.
I will use You Tube in my classroom no matter how old it is when I began teaching. I know it will seem ancient but with discretion I hope to find the educated things I want to show the kids and maybe even use it to present ideas to the principal in a teachers meeting.
Below is my link for the Grant Hill moment.

# 19 of 23 Things

I really like the Ning/Teacher Pop from campus!! It is a great way to interact with students and teachers on campus. It is nice to finally have a website to hold only the information that I care about and one the whole world will not access just to be noisy. I might use this one for the rest of the time I am attending APSU. I look forward to seeing a lot of them graduate, join, have classes with, and later we graduate together. below is my my Ning badge link.
http://static.ning.com/socialnetworkmain/widgets/index/swf/badge.swf?v=201103232153

I also went to another network and found another hobby of mines... Reading. When I am on school breaks or vacation I pick a book off the book shelf and engulf into reading. Since I am a college student I do not get to do my own reading to often, when I do I use the time wisely. I found a site called whats on my bookshelf. It is a place you can trade books you have with someone else that wants to read a book you have at home. Its like a library but you find only the titles, and areas you like. I am a member now of this site and it was the only one appealing to me and yes I will be using it in the future to come.

# 18 of 23 Things

I have set up a twitter account! I truly did not want to do it all. I did not want to be a part of this society that walks around with face to phone all day. I am a people person who loves to talk with my mouth and not my fingers. I did however find current events and follow the music groups that I only like to listen to. I enjoyed listening to the music I have not heard in a while, music in my "kiddy" day, and music I wish they would never play. One thing that I did like about twitter is that current events "pop" up instantly so I do not have to stay up and watch the news 2 @ 10. Below is my twitter link to follow me and my favorite music person for a while. Stay tuned.

Thing # 17 of 23

I learned a lot about social bookmarking. I am a person that finds a website or page that I like very much and save it to my favorites in my email. By every third or fourth month when I sit down at the computer waisting time I have to be clean up woman for my favorite box as well. I have to delete and delete because I do not use the site any more or I do not need it for that particular class anymore. The social bookmarking helps me keep the sites for a lot longer and organize them in outline type form when I am ready for them. The plus for me was that I can stop telling my friends look "I will forward it to you". No longer do I have to do that we can just share it.
Social bookmarking can be a tool to use in the classroom or just for daily living. However, it can make life easier once you learn how to use it. I am still trying to work the knots out but I will conquer it!!!!
This is my story and I am sticking to it.

Thing # 16 of 23

Here is my link for the 2.0 Ta da list. I really enjoyed this program!!!!
First it was simple to get a free account. The second part was the account set up went super fast.
The most important thing was that it took me right to the site and I was able to work on in instantly.
The flow of the pages was real simple to follow and showed me every step on how to share it. I did not do it publicly because one
the caution signs said it could be put into a data base search engine. I did not know what that meant but to me it meant not private.
I did a list for today, and the rest of the semester. I plan on using this one a great deal. For the classroom it is a great tool to help teachers
stay on track with how much information they did or did not give to the students. Also, it could help students to keep track on homework due dates, class projects, after school programs and school functions. This program can be used at any computer you are near and you can also have it linked to your phone.

# 15 of 23 Things

I am not a person who just like to blogg on anything. I felt that wiki was a waste of time. I sat at this computer for at least one hour and still feel the same way. Yes I did blogg in the sandbox item (another waste of time). However, it was fun to read what other classmates wrote on the page.

# 14 B of 23 Things

Hello,
I HATED Flowchart.com.
It took so long to set up the account. I had to wait to get the email to verify my account. I had to go through puzzles just to use information. I took the same information I used on bubbl.us and tried to put it into the carts of flow charts and it was not working. I hated all the mazes and things that were going on that I did not understand. I personally would not use this at home or in the classroom. the mind charts are much easier to use, easy to setup, easy to delete information or charts, and faster to pull up.
In a classroom I want something that is easy to access and understand so I will be able to help the students understand. I want something I can have them do class projects on their own not having to call on me as much. I think the mind charts take cares of that and so much more..

# 14 A of 23 Things

Good Morning!!!
I was up all night thinking about how to do these 2 steps of the flow chart. I got up somewhat early and began working on the first project from bubbl.us. This is the mind map portion. It was very easy setting up the account. The site automatically let you continue working on the project right after creating the account. You did not have to go back to your email and "verify" your email address and then go back to working.
I would use flow charts to make family trees for family occasion, family vacations to let everyone know where and times to be. I would even use mind charts to let parents know the set up of my classroom day. It was quite fun and I got started by using the brain storm of a 5 page paper I got to do for my African American History Class. Below you will find the link to my creative genius self....

# 13 B of 23 Things

I just did the Google Docs with pictures and it was cool. It is easier than Flicker and all the other pictures links and how to dos. I was just able to click and drag and the upload went to work in minutes. I would say in the classroom I would use this program over most when it comes to sharing photos or places the students have been. I like Google Docs over the ZOHO which was more complicated. It seems to me ZOHO copied the old word site and made it easier to access, and that is what "apps" is suppose to do. Make life a little easier. Below is the link to my Google Docs picture's. You must have this link in order to access the file.

Good Luck,
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mtzCpyd8dyu-GV087x2dfc1-CP7F5PJlKxLDEcZtHlg/edit?hl=en&authkey=CJKos_AM

# 13 of 23 Things

I was on the ZOHO Writer and the link below is how I came about just typing a little message. It was a little different from the original Microsoft office. The items were easy to find in some cases. However if you are on the go with a phone, laptop or something of the sort this program will work. I do agree with the business end of the spectrum that the old Microsoft's documents are more suitable for work related day to day documents.

# 12 B of 23

I used Goggle Earth for my option two of the 2 part Goggle series. I enjoyed looking through the places but I started to get confused. I don't think it was the actual program itself, I think it was me trying to do other things I had no clue on what to do. I was able to see places I have traveled to in 3D and that was awesome.

I went into one link that had lesson plans that teachers could use to incorporate Goggle Earth into their classroom. Since I want to teach the levels 7 through 12 grade I found a perfect link for geography.
Here is the link below.

# 12 A of 23 Things

Hello,
I just did iGoogle and created a profile. I liked it because it gave me only information on the areas I only find interesting. I hate when yahoo put everything about that is going on and what I want seems to be at the bottom of the scroll list. This way I was able to create my own page and have only what I like shown.
Sometimes you can get things other than Burger King your way and I like that.

I can have my child set one up to see the up coming attractions or themes that her class will be using to get ahead on dreaming up ideas.
If you want to check my page out. Its very simple and basic but that is how I enjoy life right now outside of school. Here it is...

# 11 of 23 Things

Hello,
I read a few of the new and useful blogs. I did not find many that interest me like the RSS readers. I did however find the classroom 2.0 site to be very informational. I liked the virtual part of the students in the classroom. It just goes to show that technology has grown and has plenty of room to grow. Here is the link below.

# 10 OF 23 Things

I did not want to do the RSS feeds at first. I thought it was going to be like looking at CNN. Once I got passed reading the information on how, who, what, where, and why I actually enjoyed it. It gives me news better than ever. I can get the points I want to hear from good and bad. I only receive the information from the ideas or news that I am intersted in. I picked 5 topics and they were:
1. Ways on how to save water and heat.
2. Hybrid Cars vs. Gas cars.
3. How to put babies to sleep (planning on child # 2 and my oldest is 11)
4. Teen Parenting.
5. Prepare the body for a baby before and after the baby.
Here is a link to one. http://blogs.babble.com/being-pregnant/

This can help a teacher in the classroom with hot topics that students hear on the radio before school to help them gain information on a topic before making a decision on to support or not support and idea.

And NO I do not dare create a public page....I am not into checking mail much.. I get outside and play with my children; I do not have time to be in front of this monitor outside of school work.

It was fun again. Here is another image I made!!!!!!!!
I feel like a child in a candy store. I did this all buy myself..again.

Okay maybe it is just me. Was this activity super easy??? I can not believe it something I did not have to use my phone a friend or sell my park place to do. I liked it but I still can not believe it was this easy to access and to participate in. Here is my link for my image generator.

Just in case you do not know it is all and will always be about shoes!!!

Thing # 8B of 23

I really enjoyed setting up my flickr account. Espically when I was able to upload pictures from my computer instead of pulling out my camera and taking pictures in the house. Most of the time I am already for bed when I do my homework so those pictures do not look that good!!!
I hated to use flickr for the spell out or the puzzle board. I could not really see my words and I was using my child to help me with this. I would definetly use the picture flickr in the classroom to show my students how to create blogs for self and for other students around the world to see our classroom. However, I will stay away from spell or puzzle flickr because I could not understand it. The word part of flickr was hard for me to follow and that would take up to much constructive classroom time.

Thing # 8A of 23

Here is my html for my spell word from flickr. Enjoy.

Thing # 7 of 23

This is my website for my picture from the Flickr account. It was a very easy account to set up. It was very easy to find the pictures from my computer. It was hard to find the settings and how to send it to my blog for school. I hope you can find it through this html.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58853851@N07/5394656448/" title="My Cinderella Moment by MrsDeeMoney, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4087/5394656448_0266a1b558.jpg" width="338" height="500" alt="My Cinderella Moment" /></a>

Thing # 6 of 23

The two sites I choose from Web 2.0 awards list that I find helpful for my lifestyle is Ask.com and Amazon.com.
In the classroom and everywhere that I take my children the ask.com is real handy. I can use it on my phone or computer to type in any question. For example, when kids used to ask parents why is the sky blue while driving in the car, parents would say its just the reflection of the ocean. Not true at all parents. Now we have Ask.com and you can type in those questions and get answers back immediately. In a classroom that works perfect to start your day with a brain teaser. I would have a different student each day type in a question that we all have wondered about and that would help move the class day. For my class it can be any subject as along as it is clean and age appropriate.

My second choice from the web sites is more of a personal one. That would be amazon.com. I love when I can not find an item in the stores I can go home and shop for it through amazon. 99% of the time what I need is there and I can get it shipped for free!!!! In fact if the super saver amazon do not have the items, it gives you comfort in letting you chose other sellers as well. I buy all of my daughter's ballet items on line because the stores are just to expensive.  I have not figured out how to use this website in my classroom yet but if you have any ideas please share them with me.

Thing # 5 of 23

What does School 2.0 mean to you?
This is one of the questions that was asked in the video from Kansas State University. My answer is that class rooms "creative thinking" time will increase to a huge amount. Classrooms will be able to not only read about a subject but will be able to see it in action and actually move in time. For example, a science teacher will no longer talk about the Moon phases, but will be able to use the Internet to show students how it works and they will be able to interpret the answer in a real time sort of way.
I believe this would be a great advantage to keep our children up to date on current events and not lag behind.
Most importantly for me I think it will be fun for some subjects but not for others. In my opinion I would use it in Science, Music, and Dance classes. However, I will not use it in a Math class unless it is necessary.

Another question from Web 2.0 (Wikipedia), what does it mean for schools in the future?
I have to say for schools that are truly advanced in eduction, technology, and finance they need to run with this program and produce more efficient programs than ever. In fact they could teach each other how to help each other with out the teacher having to stand over each and every student. The teacher can handle the class as a hole just from his/her computer screen.
As for the school districts that do not have the resources we as tax payers need to work a little harder on the government so that none of our children in the United States gets left behind.

Thing # 4A of 23 Things

Hello again and its nice to talk to you.
I think if you have decided to set up a blog for whatever reason you should check it to see what people are saying.
My comments about Edublogger Etiquette is that you should commit on a few of the blogs at least once a week. Commenting on a blog every moment of the day is a little extreme. However, not commenting at all is a bit rude. As a person you should find your own balance based on your individual schedule. My schedule changes every week so on my easy day of the that week would be the perfect time to read, edit, and respond to any blogs that I have accumulated or responded to.

A web blog is a great way to connect to someone about a particular subject. You can learn good ideas as well as bad ideas about a subject or even a person. For example, you have a certain political candidate in mind but not sure about how you feel about them. You could post it to your blog and let readers give you good and bad information on the candidate. Once you have read and responded to the blogs you will have a better chance at choosing who you would like to represent you in the government world.
At the end of the day its your decision about using the web-blog choose it wisely and welcome to the blog world. I can not wait to hear from you.

Thing # 2 of 23 List

Hello world,
I am back again. My teacher decided to take me up on to another challenge. I had to publish an avatar. I loved creating a little paper doll person. No she is not the real me but close enough for the syber world. I chose the actual color of my skin, hair, and smile. However my hair is a little longer but the style is the same. I choose the outfits I normally wear. I love tank tops and jeans. I am a tennis shoe fanatic!!!!! Well just mainly a Nike shoe fanatic. I was getting a little upset with the copy and paste during the course of time. My personality does reflect in this avatar because I am fond of smiling it keeps the blood pressure down plus it shows I am a good person. I am not one to really dress up unless I am going out for a romantic night on the town. Other than this world, I have completed the avatar, enjoyed and now I am waiting on you to return messages back. Do you like what I have become?

Thing # 1 of 23 List

I must tell you the beginning of my technology adventure just started. My teacher decided to have us create this blog page and I had no clue what blog even was. So to tell you I had to read, read, read, read, and read again just to understand the words. Then I had to create another user name and password. Like I do not already have a million of those to remember. I just learned how to save favorites to my yahoo address book. But I am frustrated even while I am typing this blog. It is fairly easy with the step by step bullets given by my professor. All in all it was not too bad but I just don't like this because I am a private person who does not like anyone knowing anything about unless I speak it out of my mouth. I don't know who looks at these pages.
Now that I have vented to you world, hello by the way, I am off to the next lovely task..Stay Tune

Thing # 1 of 23 List

The Hardest of the 7 1/2 Habits of a Lifelong learners for me would be number six: use technology to your advantage. I look at most of the new items that hit the stores and mostly if I buy one I have my child work it first. I do this so I can just blame the "stupid machine." I do not take the time to learn them or put them to better usage other than using it to play a video game. I must say this class is going to teach me to come out of my shell and really get to moving. Do you want to see how it goes? Follow me this whole semester and I will give it to you play by play!!!!

The Easiest of the 7 1/2 of a Lifelong learners for me is to PLAY!!!! I am such a kid at heart. I love to be outside (during the hot season only of course), play dress up (with my children of course), and to run at least a mile just to exercise. Playing was a part of my life growing up. When my kids come home from school they have worked just as hard as I have in school. So when the weekend rolls around we must have fun because we have been stuck in the house with books, papers, and pencils to our noses for hours... It's time to play, relax, and have fun. Now that Monday is here it is time to get back to work and study hard for school.
